Erection Methods for Arch & Tied-Arch Bridges

Learn practical erection methods, sequencing, and geometry control for building safe, accurate arch and tied-arch bridges.

About This Course

Arch and tied-arch bridges depend on precise geometry—and getting that geometry right happens during erection. In this course, we explore practical erection methods used worldwide: full centering, cantilevering with temporary stays, segmental construction, lifting or floating arch ribs into place, and tie tensioning and hanger installation. You’ll learn how deflections, temperature, tolerances, and temporary works influence the final bridge shape, and how small errors during construction can create long-term performance issues. Through real project examples, this course gives engineers, contractors, QA/QC staff, and project managers the tools to plan, monitor, and deliver safe, accurate arch and tied-arch bridge erection.
